The City of Greenbrier proudly recognizes and celebrates the retirement of Officer Johnny Fowlkes, honoring a career of service, courage, and a genuine heart for protecting others. Mayor Hartwick honored him during the February City Council Meeting with a special recognition.

Officer Fowlkes recently retired after six years with the Greenbrier Police Department, capping off an impressive 26 year career in law enforcement that included service with the Arkansas State Police and the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office. Throughout his career, he served in a variety of demanding roles, including Criminal Investigator and member of the Metro SWAT Team.
When asked why he chose a career in law enforcement, Officer Fowlkes shared, “I always wanted to be there for someone if they needed help.” That commitment to showing up for others was evident in every chapter of his career.
Before entering law enforcement, Fowlkes owned and operated a trucking company for 20 years. After growing weary of the red tape and challenges of running a business, he was approached by a friend to consider a role as an investigator with the state. That decision launched a career of meaningful service and impact that would span more than two decades.
Among his many accomplishments, Officer Fowlkes says he is most proud of helping put child predators behind bars and playing a role in solving homicide cases. His dedication to these difficult cases reflects the integrity, resolve, and compassion he carried throughout his career.
As he steps into retirement, Officer Fowlkes plans to take things a little slower while keeping an open mind about what comes next. He is currently training for part-time private security work, continuing his lifelong commitment to keeping others safe, just in a new season of life.
The City of Greenbrier and the Greenbrier community extend heartfelt thanks to Officer Johnny Fowlkes for his years of service, sacrifice, and leadership. His legacy of protection and service will continue to be felt by the many lives he touched along the way. Thank you, Officer Fowlkes, for answering the call and serving with honor.
